*The event has already taken place on this date: Fri, 12/09/2016
Las Posadas is a nine-day religious celebration celebrated primarily in Mexico and by Mexican-Americans in Southwest United States. Celebrated in the evenings, families participate in nightly Christmas processions that re-create the Holy Pilgrimage of Mary, Joseph and the baby Jesus on their way to Bethlehem.

Un, Dos, Tres, Posada! By Virginia Kroll – A posada is an important Latino holiday tradition that happens all over the world on each of the nine nights before Christmas. There’s a lot to do every night before the party can begin, and here a little girl guides us through each step—from putting out poinsettias to hanging the piñata—as she counts to ten in English and Spanish. Young readers can follow along by counting the different items mentioned.
The Night Of Los Posadas by Tomie de Paola – Tomie dePaola’s glorious paintings are as luminous as the farolitos that light up on the Plaza in Santa Fe for the procession of Las Posadas, the tradition in which Mary and Joseph go from door to door seeking shelter at the inn on Christmas Eve.
Music & Movement – 3:00 PM
Join the Imaginators and dance with their version of the children’s musical bottle cap instrument the Corcholatas!
Art Studio – 11:00 AM – 4:00 PM
Celebrate Las Posadas by creating your very own shining star to represent the star that shined over the stable in Bethlehem when baby Jesus was born. Or, construct a homemade rosary to honor Mary, the Mother of God and learn how it relates to Las Posados.
