The Polytech has been hosting a series of cooking lessons throughout the pandemic with positive feedback from students and parents alike. Each class has a theme, either related to a holiday, a specific type of international cuisine, or a style of cooking, such as baking. Students get the menu in advance with a list of ingredients as well as all equipment needed. And then, everyone cooks together in real time! Our teacher is in a professional kitchen live-streaming the lesson over Teams, and students are in their individual kitchens completing each step. Cameras are optional, but even those cooking without a camera may want to turn it on briefly to ask, "Is this how it should look?" or other cooking related questions and get immediate feedback. The end result is a lot of fun and a delicious meal the whole family can enjoy.
Here are some examples of previous menus our students have cooked:
- Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Muffins, Orange-Glazed Chicken with Pears, and Cauliflower and Potato Mash
- Blackened Fish Tacos with Mango Salsa and Mini Lemon Meringue Pies
- Sheet Pan Teriyaki Salmon and Veggies, Ginger Scallion Rice, and Baked Apples
- Pecan Pie Cheesecake Bars, One Pan Skinny Chicken Alfredo, and Holiday Punch
- Chipotle and Rosemary Roasted Nuts, Healthy Peanut Butter Fudge, and Vanilla Creme Brulee
